Tonight's program comprises:
Calgary born James Keelaghan - who has performed for Little Rock Folk Club
on a number of occasions - celebrates his first 25 years as a
singer/songwriter and musician with a delve through his entire recordings
catalog and presents studio versions of 18 of his most popular songs, a 28
page booklet with pictures and reminiscences from his travels around the
world, and ...to
top it all off a DVD of the man sitting in the comfort of his own home
discussing the origins of the 18 songs and the fascinating stories that
provided the circumstances for his songs - magic!;
Brooklyn-based Grammy-nominated
Americana/Alt Country/Newgrass/roots sextet Yarn with
their 7th release which focusses on the songwriting chops of band leader
Blake Christiana, with a couple of co-writes with John Oates (Hall &
Oates), their most recent release Almost Home was funded through Kickstarter
contributions from the avid nation-wide band of supporters known
affectionately as "The Yarmy" and developed as a consequence of
the band's near constant touring and live performance reputation;
Seven-piece Spuyten Duyvil from the Hudson Valley with the follow-up release
to their very successful 2011 release New Amsterdam, have produced an album
showcasing the songwriting talents of husband and wife duo Mark Miller and
Beth Kaufman who have produced a clutch of original songs centered around
the theme of temptation. Non-original tracks comprise the anthemic I'll Fly
Away, married on this occasion to the classic Will The Circle Be Unbroken
and a beefy rendition of Red Molly Abbie Gardner's excellent Honey On My
Grave;
Ashleigh Flynn, Kentucky-born tho now longtime resident of Portland OR has
produced an excellent album of various musical styles encompassing, blues,
gospel, vaudeville swing and indie rock that center around the central theme
of honoring contemporary and historical American women such as Loretta Lynn
and Calamity Jane and
includes a blues classic from Ma Rainey to boot;
Talented father (hammered dulcimer and fiddle) abetted by equally talented
son (banjo, fiddle,vocals) augmented by a
number of talented friends including stringed instrument demon Robin Bulluck
have produced a sumptuous album of music drawn from the well of Appalachian
Old Time music to which they have seamlessly added their own compositions
by way of replenishing the
well
for other musicians to enjoy;
In concert with Little Rock Folk Club on Fri Nov 1st 2013, and With a slew
of classic songs to his credit, Michael Johnson has been described as a
songwriter's songwriter, and a guitarist's guitarist.
