Luke Jackson: stunning follow up release to his critically acclaimed debut release "More Than Boys" from this 19 years old
wunderkind English singer-songwriter and powerful guitarist from Canterbury, Kent, currently nominated for both Horizon
Award for Best Emerging Talent and BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Plaudits rightfully arrive from every quarter in praise of
the maturity of his writing, the timbre of his voice and the excellence of his playing... in short, he is the complete deal.
On "Fumes And Faith", produced by Cardiff, Wales-based American producer Mason Neely, he presents 11 original songs that are
doubtlessly English but yet with a bluesy/Americana quality to them, with sparse yet sympathetic piano, drums, percussive
foot stomps and hand claps in support of his precise, hypnotic picking.
Annie Ford Band: Virginia-born Seattle-based dues-well-paid multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, banjo, viola, acoustic guitar)
singer-songwriter, well established locally as a recording session musician, and former busker with a debut album
encompassing a swath of music styles and influences along the country-Americana spectrum, with hints of Klezmer, jug band
and ragtime from Ford's varied musical journey thus far! Aided and abetted by the songwriting talents of drummer Matt Manges
on 4 up-tempo guitar-driven songs, the cd contains 5 original mainly ballads from Ford, a honky-tonk piano-driven
arrangement of the traditional "Frankie" (and Albert) and Daniel Kahn's mournful "All Hours" with Ivan Molton on bass and
baritone/tenor saxes, Olie Eshleman pedal steel/electric guitar, Tim Sargent acoustic guitar/banjo, Robert Mitchell on
piano/organ and guest Eric Padget on trumpet;
Varttina: Finnish supergroup established 31 years ago and with ever changing membership in the intervening years yet their
one constant is their innovative approach to presenting traditional Finnish music replete with soaring vocal harmonies and
world-class instrumentation. On this CD they add flavors from beyond their national borders including a very jazzy sounding
Kaihon Kantaja (The Bearer Of Yearning) and Middle Eastern strings and percussion to produce an album marking the band's
continuing transition from pure Finnish tradition bearers to contemporary world musicians;
Dylan Sneed: superb Kickstarter-funded Americana release from Texas singer-songwriter, now based in Hartsville, SC, who has
been described as "a sober Townes Van Zandt" by the Columbia Free Times, and as posssessing "music of passion that can move
an audience with a whisper or a roar" by the Dallas Observer. The CD is an all original examination of the Life's
ponderables concerning love, faith, family, home and friends except for a totally original take on Cindi Lauper's "Girls
Just Want To Have Fun" which adds a certain pathos and heft to an otherwise cheery little calorie free but nonetheless
enjoyable pop song. Dylan Sneed will be making his Little Rock Folk Club (www.littlerockfolkclub.org) debut on Sat Feb 1st
2014;
Tin Bird Choir: Kickstarter-funded 2nd release from the Pennsylvania-based husband-and-wife individual and duo songwriting
team of Eric and Heather Hurlock, backed by musicians Josh Sceurman and Ellen Houle, and in this recording by record
producer Kevin Killen who played most of the instruments along with Eric Hurlock. Clever lyrics, engaging melodies, superb
singing and interesting arrangements make this an enjoyable listen with songs covering Americana, folk, alt-country and even
a little folk-pop;
Phil MacLennnan Smillie: first solo album from flute, whistle, harmony vocals and bodhran player Smillie, one of the last
two original members of the current Tannahill Weavers which he joined when he was 16! Joined by an all-star group of
musicians including amongst others: Russell Hunter piano, Dougie McCance pipes, Charlie McKerron on fiddle, Aaron Jones
bouzouki, guitar, bass, Patsy Seddon harp, Dougie MacLean fiddle, Fred Morrison uilleann pipes, John Martin on fiddle;
insert includes tune information which include jigs, reels, marches and airs
(VA)The Songs of Gene MacLellan: Recordings from a Jan 2013 memorial tribute concert at Zion Presbyterian Church in
Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, Canada to trailblazing GRAMMY Award winning singer/songwriter and native son Gene
MacLellan who was bedeviled throughout his life by mental illness that robbed him of the ability to enjoy the fruits of his
artistry, and ultimately took his life from him too. Performers include PEI musicians including his singer-songwriter
daughter Catherine MacLennan, Lennie Gallant, and Ron Hynes amongst others, songs include his mega-successful and
GRAMMY-winning "Snowbird" and "Put Your Hand in the Hand". The live sound recording is meticulous - kudos to the engineers -
and the musicianship is world class;
