A Days Work - "The show tells the story of farm workers moved from the country to the front in the first world war and the death of one of their number shot as a concientious objector. 'A Day's Work' was first written and performed in 1995. That version of the show was recorded, and released as a cassette, by Wildgoose Records in 1996 (WGS272MC) It was published in 1997 by Lyngham House (ISBN: 0 9528225).The all-star cast comprises:

A mother: MAGGIE BOYLE,
Her son, a farm labourer, then a recruit : MATT QUIN
A father : MICK RYAN
His son, a farm labourer, then a 'conchie' : GREG RUSSELL
A poacher, then a recruit : PETE MORTON
An Irish mother. Her son is in the British Army : HEATHER BRADFORD
A vicar and an officer: PAUL DOWNES" - Wild Goose website

Another magnificent album/folk opera from the pen of Mick Ryan - absolutely fabulous!

Vin Garbutt - the original Teeside Troubadour... yet another excellent release from one of the hardest working performers in the business, comprising some choice selections from contemporary writers such as the late Graeme Miles and John Wrightson, a lovely setting of Rudyard Kipling's If, choice traditional pieces and of course his own outstanding compositions addressing as ever the difficult issues that life can produce best exemplified by his song Teacher From Persia documenting the real life experiences of an Iranian teacher and musician caught betwixt and between - exiled from his homeland and yet invisible in his new country.

Lizzy Hoyt - "Lizzy Hoyt is an award-winning Canadian vocalist and songwriter who also happens rank among the top Celtic instrumentalists in the country. With the voice of an angel, Lizzy delivers music and stories with soaring melodies rooted in Celtic and folk traditions.Lizzy’s fourth album New Lady on the Prairie (produced by John Reischman and Lizzy Hoyt; to be released Oct. 1st, 2014) demonstrates a mature and refined ‘transatlantic’ sound that blends influences from Celtic, bluegrass and folk traditions. The title track, inspired by Lizzy’s great great aunt immigrating to Canada from Ireland in the early 1900s, demonstrates her ability to craft songs that are touching, poignant, and lyrically rich. Her arrangements are detailed and atmospheric, and her talents as a multi-instrumentalist are featured in spades. The album also features some of Canada’s finest musicians including John Reischman, Ivan Rosenberg, Joe Phillips, Christine Hanson, Jeremiah McDade and more." - Artist's website.

Stunning album which makes me wonder why I haven't heard any of her three previous albums!

Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll - "Nick and Becki are two outstanding fiddle players composing and re-interpreting traditional tunes. They also sing some great songs using their inventive playing as accompaniment." - Wild Goose website

Yet another gem of original compositions and beautifully interpreted English traditional songs and tunes from this excellent duo comprising Nick Wyke - Vocals, fiddle and viola, Becki Driscoll - vocals, fiddle, viola, and bassoon, augmented by James Budden - double bass and Ellen Driscoll - French horn. Spoiled for choice picking only 2 tracks from this excellent album.

Johnsmith - "Johnsmith is one of those artists so often under-recognized – he possesses a genius that cannot be denied, ignored, or overlooked. For the past thirty-plus years, Johnsmith has been sharing his music all across America and abroad. He has become a favorite at festivals, clubs, and house concerts alike. In addition to being a Kerrville New Folk Winner, Johnsmith has released seven solo CDs to rave reviews, leads musical tours to Ireland, teaches songwriting, and has served as a staff songwriter in Nashville." - Artist's website.

On this release he demonstrates his continuing ability to put the commonplace into rhyming words and gorgeous melodies and delivered with an easy, honey-doffed vocal style that is immensely listenable.

Brooks Williams - making a very welcomed return visit to Little Rock Folk Club on Sat Dec 6th 2014, Brooks is the complete triple threat - the voice, the guitar chops and the material. Comfortably straddling the blues/Americana divide he has produced 20 + albums in his 25 year career and each one bears the stamp of excellence that is his trademark. In  concert, it is evident that Brooks loves his work!

Grace Notes - 3 part harmony accompanied and a capella comprising the late Maggie Boyle – vocals, flute, bodhran, Lynda Hardcastle – vocals, recorders and Helen Hockenhull – vocals, keyboard, concertina, mandolin.
