India Electric company: "Unpretentious, absorbing and far from the
madding crowd, India Electric Company’s carefully blended sound
vortexes around a supple joining of voice and instruments. Concocted in the
Devonshire countryside and Parisian cafes, Cole Stacey and Joseph
O’Keefe produce intricately woven textures which
belies the fact that there are only two of them. Like wandering minstrels roving
along the fringes of the 21st century, they have spent much of the last 18
months touring Plymouth to Paris, Sidmouth to
Skye and every independent coffee shop that lies between. From playing jazz
on West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival to performing Mendelsohn’s
Violin Concerto for Terry Pratchett, Joseph’s virtuosity on violin,
accordion, guitar and piano (to name but few) has made him one of the most
sought after multi-instrumentalists in the UK. A Cambridge Masters in
Mathematics has proven to be invaluable when calculating the escalating
petrol costs of carrying an accordion up and down the M6. Cole, described
by Steve Knightley (Show of Hands) as “an impassioned and ambitious
singer-songwriter,” has been performing around England with his Faith
guitar in hand for several years." Artists' website
Fabian Holland: "There are things you fall in love straight away,
you don’t really need a reason, that thing talks to the deepest and
truest chords of your soul and there’s no escape. It happened this
morning when I had a listen at Fabian Holland’s début album.
You must be wondering what it is that makes it so good to start this review
with such a bold statement. Well once, a dear friend of mine,
told me greatness lies in beauty and simplicity, and that’s what Holland
accomplished."

Harp And A Monkey: "songs about cuckolded molecatchers,
a lone English oak tree that grows at Gallipoli, care in the community and
medieval pilgrims… we can only be talking about the folk
experimentalists Harp and a Monkey. The harp
‘n’ banjo driven electro-folk-storytelling of Martin Purdy
(vocals, glockenspiel, accordion, harmonica and keyboards), Simon Jones
(harp, guitar, viola) and Andy Smith (banjo, melodica,
guitar and programming) is imbued with a deep Lancashire sensibility that
shines through in their beautifully crafted and sometimes spooky vignettes
of northern life, love and remembrance. The outfit, who have been friends
for more than 15 years, channel the ghosts of summers spent in municipal
parks and winters walking on the moors. Ask them about their influences and
they are as likely to cite Ordnance Survey maps and the Commonwealth War
Graves Commission as they are Bert Jansch, Bjork
or Bellowhead." Artists' website
Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman: "Two
of the British folk scenes most accomplished performers, Kathryn and Sean
have graced stages the world over in a number of guises, however,
the intimacy and strength of passion shown as a duo, combined with an
eclectic repertoire ensures a rare treat for any listener. Twin daughters
and a folk-rock whirlwind forced Kathryn Roberts (Vocals / Piano /
Woodwind), and Sean Lakeman (Guitar), to sideline
their popular duo performances in the mid noughties. After almost a decade,
2012 saw a spectacular return in conjunction with their critically
acclaimed album ‘Hidden People’. Awards and much praise
followed and the couple re-established themselves as one of the top British
folk duos. With a story that includes music making
with the likes of Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Levellers, Kate Rusby and
Show of Hands, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman
have consolidated themselves as pillars of modern British folk."

Tomorrow Will Follow Today indicates that their well is deep and the
water is refreshing - the future bodes well too!
Mick & Sarah Graves w.Colin Heaviside:
very well established English concertina queen and multi-instrumentalist
hubby, both with long associations with local ceilidh
and Morris bands such as the excellent Metric Foot Band, Lumps of Plum
Pudding and Chelmsford Morris, joined by piano wizard Colin
Heaviside combining to bring the music of former band mate and prolific
composer Greg Trice's, who sadly died in Canada in 1993 music to common
knowledge and popular circulation. A manuscript book full of Trice tunes,
only recently discovered during a house move, and crammed full of superb
tunes that reveal a composer with a lovely ear for melody. Doubtlessly many
of the tunes on this album are destined to travel to music fraternities
around the globe - a fitting tribute to a fine composer, and the friends
who have preserved his work for our enjoyment!
Chris Jones: Mellifluous-voiced Welsh tenor guitarist/bouzouki player
with a lovely album of traditional Welsh and English songs. The song lyrics
for each track are complete tho there are only
brief notes accompanying the Welsh language songs and, from a DJ
perspective, no track pronunciation guides which makes Skype and Welsh
speaking friends in Cardiff indispensable :-)
Kate Campbell: the splendid musical documenter of the lives and times
down here in the sunny South... making a most welcomed return visit to
