Stan Graham: 4th
release from this polished, multi-award-winning, English singer-songwriter
accompanied on this release by an all star cast
including Angus Lyons (Blazing Fiddles), Emily Smith (Scottish Folk Singer
of the Year Award winner), Anna Massie (Kate Rusby
Band), Wendy Weatherby, Stewart Hardy, Jamie McClennon (Emily Smith Band).
"Every now and again someone quite special comes up from the Club
scene that stands out in both terms of repertoire, personality and
performance. Stan Graham is one such person. He can be counted among that
rare breed of songwriters with an innate ability to capture real emotion.
His songs reflect life's immense variety, with memorable words and
melodies. With four internationally successful and highly acclaimed albums
of self penned songs to his name, he stands out
from the usual run of songwriters." - Artist's website
The Young'Uns:
"The Young’uns are a force of nature on stage. Their
irrepressible humour, infectious love for harmony
singing, passion for storytelling and commitment to maintaining the
tradition of social commentary have quickly made them one of the most
sought after acts on the English folk scene with the rare ability to make
audiences laugh and cry in equal measure. In 2013
they gave up their jobs and took to the road to share their love of singing
and laughter with whomever would listen.Since
then they have performed alongside Billy Bragg at Glastonbury, opened the
main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival, recorded a memorable live session on
BBC Radio 2, held a host of intimate rural singing weekends, visited dozens
of schools and appeared at over 40 festivals at home and abroad.A decade after first burping their way through a
sea shanty as inebriated teenagers at Stockton Folk Club, The
Young’uns (so called that night because they were the youngest people
at the club by over 40 years) have developed their craft, absorbed the
musical heritage of their native North East, sought inspiration from the
hundreds of performers they have heard and are now preparing to take their
music to a much wider audience than they ever imagined." - Artists'
website
Siobhan Miller:
"Siobhan Miller is one of the foremost singers in Scotland. Her range
includes Scottish traditional, contemporary and self-penned material. In
December 2011 she was voted ‘Scots Singer of the Year’ in the
MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, and again in
2013. She is also an experienced singing tutor and works for Live Music
Now. Most recently she has
formed Salt House with Lauren MacColl, Ewan
MacPherson and Euan Burton, and released their
debut album, ‘Lay your Dark Low’. Her hotly anticipated solo
album was released in 2014." - Artist's website
Les Poules
A Colin: "Winners of the Young Tradition competition in
Burlington, Vermont (2009) and Prix de la Culture Desjardins in
Québec (2010), the five members of « the latest and youngest
band out of the hot Québécois traditional music scene »
(fRoots) are inspired by roots music passed down
from their families and learned at music camps and in jams. Their performances
are entrancing and sparkle with unpretentious, natural talent and respect
for their repertoire – including beautifully arranged original and
folk-trad songs and tunes (both French and
English). As the offspring of veteran trad
musicians, they have grown up with and learned their craft firsthand from
some of Québec’s finest in a region famous for its traditions.
They’ve already graced the stages at major venues in Canada and the
US. Their first album was recorded with a grant from the Lanaudière Youth Fund and the Québec Arts
Council (2011). A new recording is in the works in time for summer touring
in 2014. A fresh, exciting and utterly disarming sound!" - Artists'
website
Ray Wylie Hubbard:
"WIMBERLEY, Texas — When it comes to down ’n’ dirty
roots ’n’ roll, nobody in the wide world of Americana music
today does it better than Ray Wylie Hubbard. Except, it seems, for Hubbard
himself. After riding a decade-long career resurgence into the national
spotlight with 2012’s acclaimed The Grifter’s
Hymnal and his first ever appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman
(“I didn’t want to peak too soon,” quips Hubbard, 68),
the iconoclastic Texas songwriter is back to continue his hot streak with
The Ruffian’s Misfortune — his 16th album (and third on his own
Bordello Records, via Thirty Tigers) — due out April 7, 2015." Artist's
website CD promo sheet
Sue Massek:
"This one-woman play by Si Kahn about the life of Sarah Ogan Gunning features Sue as Sarah. Part memory play,
part eulogy, part concert, this one-woman show written by legendary folk
singer and community organizer Si Kahn traces the life of Sarah Ogan Gunning, an unsung hero of American folk/labor
music history. The play finds Sarah alone in her Detroit basement apartment
on the evening after her sister Aunt Molly Jackson’s funeral, as she
attempts to set the record straight and say goodbye. Although Sarah Ogan Gunning is a name almost unknown to us today, her
powerful songs about the coal mining region of Eastern Kentucky in the
1930s were an influence on such folkmusic and
social justice icons as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. She served as mentor
and role model for the generations that followed in her footsteps,
including The Reel World String Band." - Artist's website
Mollie O'Brien & Rich Moore:
"She has been called one of roots music’s best interpreters and
singers, and her voice described as “smooth,”
“smoky,” “powerful,” and “bright and bold as
sheet lightning.” Once you’ve heard it, you’re hooked.
Mollie’s recordings are a tribute to the variety of her taste and the
versatility of her performance. On her solo CDs — Every Night in the
Week and I Never Move Too Soon (on Resounding Records) and Tell It True,
Big Red Sun, and Things I Gave Away (on Sugar Hill) — she moves
without hesitation from style to style, dipping into the songs of Lennon
and McCartney, Percy Mayfield, Memphis Minnie, Chuck Berry, and the Subdudes. Showcasing her old-time, folk, blues, and
gospel chops are three albums with Tim O’Brien (Take Me Back,
Remember Me, and Away Out on the Mountain — all on the Sugar Hill
label). There have been any number of
collaborations, most notably the Grammy-winning True Life Blues: The Songs
of Bill Monroe (Sugar Hill) with a stellar bunch of bluegrass greats. For
the past few years, Mollie has worked with Garrison Keillor and Robin &
Linda Williams as the Hopeful Gospel Quartet, with her own five-piece band,
and as a duo with husband Rich Moore. Mollie has earned rave notices at
major festivals and venues throughout the U.S. and in the United Kingdom,
Europe, and South America." - Artist's website
"Rich Moore is well-known and well-loved in Colorado's acoustic
music family and has lived and performed here for over 25 years. He made
his reputation early on as bassist and guitarist with stellar local outfits
like The Solid Senders, and in recent years has been the rhythmic bedrock
for Pete Wernick's Live Five, Celeste Krenz, and with ensembles fronted by his wife, the
internationally-esteemed vocalist Mollie O'Brien. He is guitarist of choice
for folk legend Tom Paxton, who invariably requests Moore as a sideman for
his Colorado shows." - Artist's website
The rightly celebrated husband and wife duo of Mollie O'Brien & Rich
Moore will be in concert with Little Rock Folk Club
