Skyhook: "Cath James, Martin Harwood and Eoin Teather play traditional tunes and songs from Scotland, Ireland and Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, plus self-penned compositions by Cath, finalist in the 2008 and 2011 Niel Gow International Fiddle Composition Award. Skyhook are characterised by breathtaking twin fiddles combined with sublime guitar, bouzouki and voice. They shift seamlessly between exhilarating dance music, with unique interplay and harmonies from the fiddles, to spine-tingling songs which are sensitively arranged and beautifully sung. Skyhook play with a joy and precision that's hard to match.

Martin, on fiddle, guitar and bouzouki, is an exceptional multi-instrumentalist whose playing is noted for its commitment and passion. Previously with Caravanserai, Martin has played throughout Europe and America and had the honour of playing for Nelson Mandela in 2000.

Cath, on fiddle and viola, was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Tradition Award in 1995 and was also shortlisted in the inaugural Niel Gow International Fiddle Composition Award in 2008, with her tune 'Then & Now' and in the Amber Fiddle Award 2011, with 'Snowing up the Hill'. Cath's playing - warm, driving and precise - has graced stages across Europe and America. Cath is a sought-after folk fiddle teacher and makes violins in her spare time.

Eoin, on guitar, bouzouki and voice, is an exquisite accompanist and singer-songwriter with a voice that silences rooms. Eoin has played on stage with some of the biggest names in Irish traditional music, including the master fiddle player Tommy Peoples. Eoin combines teaching music with regular gigs and family life with his wife and two children." - Artists' website

FullSet: "FullSet are one of Ireland’s most accomplished and sought-after bands in Irish Traditional Music today. This young and exciting group creates a sound that is full of energy & innovation, whilst all the time remaining true to their traditional roots. FullSet are set to thrill audiences throughout the world. FullSet have received much critical acclaim in recent years, even being compared to super groups such as Danú & Altan by respected Irish Music Magazine. Their meteoric rise in the music world was given a massive boost in 2011 when they were honoured by being announced as the winners of the RTÉ/RAAP Breakthrough Annual Music Bursary Award. FullSet subsequently went on to receive the “Best New Group Award” from well-respected Irish American News and were also named “Best Newcomer” in Bill Margeson’s Live Ireland Awards in 2012. Following the tremendous success of their debut album “Notes At Liberty”, the group’s profile was further raised with the release of their follow up title, “Notes After Dark” in 2013. Irish Music Magazine described it as having “so many good tracks, so much energy, a band in full control and having such fun yet well able to bring things down to a tearful pause”. “Notes After Dark” was also named Album of the Year in 2013 by US radio programme “Celtic Connections”. In 2014, FullSet was awarded “Top Traditional Group” by the Irish Music Association." - Artists' website

Steve Tilston: "Steve Tilston is one of our most celebrated songsmiths, widely recognised within the world of folk and contemporary music; the words, arrangements and subtle, quite superb guitar playing could be no one else. The story of Steve’s “lost” letter from John Lennon is the inspiration for Danny Collins, a new film starring Al Pacino. The writer of the classic songs The Slipjigs and Reels, Here’s to Tom Paine and The Naked Highwayman, has also turned author. Steve has published his first novel All for Poor Jack – full of colourful characters it is an historical tale set in Bristol and the New World. It’s a mighty good read and has been enjoyed by the likes of Bob Dylan no less! In 2007 a 5 CD boxed-set was released Reaching Back: the Life and Music of Steve Tilston by Free Reed, the company behind the Richard Thompson anthology. In 2009 his early career was hi-lighted in a book Bristol Folk, the story of Bristol’s powerhouse folk & blues scene in the 60s & 70s. His 2011 release The Reckoning garnered 4-star reviews in the Guardian, the Observer and the Scotsman, a guest appearance on Later with Jools Holland and the BBC Four Songwriters’ Circle series, plus a Folk Award win: “best original song”. Followed, in 2013 by the highly acclaimed trio album Happenstance. Steve was also commissioned to write for the Olympics Radio Ballads series and the Harbour of Songs project." - Artist's website

The complete triple threat: voice, chops and material!

Sarah McQuaid: "Sarah McQuaid’s voice has been likened to malt whiskey, melted chocolate and “honey poured into wine” (Minor 7th). Her new album Walking Into White (2015) is her most honest and adventurous work to date, with a depth and texture of soundscape that are reflected in her beautifully crafted live shows. A captivating performer, she seduces her audience with cheeky banter and stories from the road, as well as with stunning musicianship; in her hands, the guitar becomes much more than merely an accompanying instrument."  - Artist's website

Couldn't say it better myself... so I didn't ;-)

John Roberts & Debra Cowan: "have been described as “two of the finest voices in folk music”. Each have separately made their mark in their careers and they have now teamed up for a brand new recording. This recording reflects the love and respect that both of these musicians have for songs that have stood the test of time. “Ballads Long & Short” is a collection of 14 songs, eleven traditional, two composed songs from John Conolly and Chris Sugden, both prominent English songwriters and one from Australian John Warner. The recording is rich with John and Debra’s vocal leads and harmonies either sung un-accompanied or enhanced by John’s Anglo concertina or banjo playing. A special guest appearance by guitarist Bill Cooley (Kathy Mattea, Reba McEntire) on a traditional track, “Fair Annie”, gives this Child ballad a setting that enhances the story.“Ballads Long & Short” contains just a hint of the wide range, numerous songs and the variety of material that both of these artists can call forth." - Artist's website

Sin And Swoon: "Montreal’s “Sin and Swoon” is made up of Ottawa Valley native Michael James O’Brien and Antigonish, Nova Scotia’s Michelle Tompkins. They love George and Tammy, old time country music, and the harmony singing of the Louvin Brothers and the Delmore Brothers. Recently featured on “The Vinyl Cafe´ with Stuart Maclean” on CBC radio and NPR, their new album is now available! Singer-songwriters Mike O’Brien and Michelle Tompkins have been performing together for the last few years, after the couple’s post-dinner-table-song-swaps led to the odd pub gig to help make ends meet. Songs were written, and the culmination of the last couple years of work has led to the release of their first record “Did I Turn The Oven Off?” Both have been busy as backup singers/musicians on the Montreal local scene, lending a hand to such notables as Patrick Watson, The Barr Brothers, Plants and Animals, Blood and Glass, Katie Moore, and Thus:Owls. Mike O’Brien was also a guitar player on the last two Vic Chesnutt tours. Now with the release of their new record, their plans are to get out and play as much as possible." - Artists' website
