The Teacups: "Comprising the singing talents of Alex Cumming, Kate
Locksley, Rosie Calvert and Will Finn, the a capella
foursome have been creating a storm across the UK festival circuit in the
last couple of years with critically acclaimed performances at Shepley
Spring Festival, Beverley Folk Festival, Warwick Folk Festival and more.
The Teacups met in 2010 whilst studying on the BMus Folk & Traditional
Music Degree at Newcastle University. Since then they have gone on to
perform around the UK and Europe, performing at some of the top festivals
and venues. The band released their first album 'One for the Pot' in 2013
which was received very well, and on July 13th 2015 they will be releasing
their much anticipated second album 'Of Labour
& Love'." - artists' website
Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer: "have developed a strong reputation for a
delivering great performances time and time again. Once known mainly for for their instrumental skills with Scottish smallpipes, accordion and Swedish nyckelharpa,
they are now being accepted as impressive song arrangers and writers. Vicki
& Jonny effortlessly blend traditional material with contemporary
interpretations whilst equally creating original self
penned tunes and songs that are entirely at home in the tradition.
Out of this combination they have developed a sound that is both familiar
and fresh.
Vicki Swan (Scottish smallpipes, Swedish nyckelharpa, flute, English border pipes, Swedish
bagpipes, double bass) Following in her
father’s footsteps Vicki is a second generation piper. Having begun
the music ladder at the age of five, Vicki went on to study the double bass
at the Royal College of Music, becoming the principal double bass and
winning the solo double bass competition. Vicki has now returned to her
Swedish roots with the addition of the Swedish nyckelharpa,
Swedish bagpipes and the translating of Swedish ballads. Vicki was a member of the 2013 European Nyckeharpa Orchestra, runs the Nyckelharpas
at Halsway and is a tutor for the International
Days of Nyckelharpa in Germany for 2014.
Jonny Dyer(Vocal, guitar, sazouki,
accordion, cow horn, spinet, low whistle) Composer and competition-winning
guitar player; Jonny’s outstanding technical ability, coupled with a
wide-ranging musical taste has made him a tireless and forceful musical
innovator. Jonny has been singing choral music, soul, jazz and folk for as
long as he can remember. Jonny mostly plays his Fylde Falstaff guitar, hisTaylor GA3 guitar and a custom made sazouki (saz/bouzouki cross)
made by Colin Kendal. He also plays a Pigini 72 bass P36 and a Brandoni
Piccolo accordion. Oh.. and
a Börs Anders Cow Horn. Occasionally he gets
out enough to play his Kerry low D whistle and trumpet." - artists' website
Alasdair Roberts: is a musician (primarily a guitarist and singer) who is
based in Glasgow Scotland. He has worked with Drag City Records since 1997,
firstly releasing three albums of self-written material under the name
Appendix Out and then several albums under his own name, the most recent
being A Wonder Working Stone by Alasdair Roberts & Friends (Drag City,
2013). He has also released music on labels such as Secretly Canadian,
Galaxia and Stone Tape Recordings. His work mainly consists of two parallel
strands: self-written song material (which can be heard on albums such as
Farewell Sorrow, The Amber Gatherers, Spoils and A Wonder Working Stone)
and interpretations of traditional songs and ballads from Scotland and
beyond (which can be heard on albums such as The Crook of My Arm, No
Earthly Man and Too Long In This Condition). Alasdair has collaborated
widely with many different musicians throughout his musical career,
including the Scottish Gaelic singer Mairi
Morrison, with whom he made the 2012 album Urstan.
He has also collaborated with artists from other disciplines such as
puppeteers (Shane Connolly, with whom he worked on a puppet theatre
interpretation of the Scottish folk play ‘Galoshins’),
film makers (including Luke Fowler, contributing a soundtrack to his film
‘All Divided Selves’) and, most recently, a poet (fellow Scot
Robin Robertson, with whom he made the 2013 album Hirta
Songs). In addition to these projects, Alasdair also recently became a
member of the English/Scottish folk quartet The Furrow Collective, along
with Lucy Farrell, Rachel Newton and Emily Portman. The group’s first
album At Our Next Meeting was released earlier this year. Late 2014 should
see the release of a new album of self-written Roberts
songs, which is currently being recorded.
Harpeth Rising: “A new album by Harpeth Rising is always a treat but
this time around they really take rising seriously. Making the kind of
record that just can’t be made these days within the system but needs
to be made more than ever, the insightful lyrics and genre fusing music
take this back to the time when music was a religion. Very mature young people
music, ring leader Jordana Greenberg must be some
wild kind of old soul because this is something special for young and old.
Taking Newgrass to the next dimension, taking
back lyric writing as an art form, if you’ve
cleaned your ears out recently, this set is going to blow your mind. Step
up to the challenge and see if you can handle something this meaty that
goes down so easily. One of a kind, in a class by itself and simply
superlative throughout. Miss out on this at your own risk. ” — Chris Spector, Midwest Record - artists'

Battlefield Band: are one of the great institutions of Scottish traditional
music. Inspired by their rich heritage and fired by the strength and
vibrancy of today's Scottish cultural scene, which they have done much to create
and fuel, their seamless fusion of ancient and contemporary music and song
has continually evolved over the decades, confirming their position as
vital composers and interpreters at the forefront of a living tradition.
Named after the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield, where the group was formed
by four student friends in 1969, they have now been on the world's roads
for over forty five years, distilling their own unique form of the Scottish
spirit. They've performed in Germany, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand,
Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Syria, Jordan, India, Sri Lanka,
Egypt, U.S.A., Canada, Uzbekistan, China and the U.K; breaking down
barriers and pioneering many new directions which others have followed.
Angry, joyful, raucous, contemplative, their music is most importantly -
accessible to all. During the years there have been many line-up changes
and indeed the band are remarkable for the smooth and organic way in which
these changes have taken place. Their continued creativity, freshness and
enthusiasm is due to the positive way they have
viewed and used these changes." - artists' website
Louise Mosrie: Louise grew up in the small town
just outside of Nashville, TN on a farm with British parents and several
siblings - riding horses, writing poetry and singing with the radio. After
college in Knoxville, she "borrowed" her brother's Sears guitar,
bought a simple chord book and started writing songs. The early material
was mostly acoustic pop as she tried to channel her English roots while listening
to Everything But the Girl and The Sundays. Fast forward a few years, a
move back to Nashville and some deep soul searching, Louise began writing
songs about the South – what she knew and where she grew up. In 2008,
she began working on a new album eventually to be called “Home”
because she’d come full circle in her “voice” as a
writer. The album was a mix of bluegrass, country and folk and as she
weaved in lush stories and songs about southern life, she was even introduced
once as “…William Faulkner with a guitar”. With those
songs, she entered some song contests connected to festivals and ended up
winning top awards at Kerrville Folk Festival, Wildflower! Festival,
Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. “Home”
debuted at #1 on the Folk DJ charts in January 2010 and went on to be one
of the most played albums that year for that chart. Buoyed by a couple
thousand earnest fans, she began touring all over the Eastern seaboard, the
South and Texas. Audience members would tell her that they enjoyed the
stories between the songs as much as the songs and her strong expressive
voice was described as “…like
listening to Patty Griffin and Susan Tedeschi at
the same time.” She’s played at The Bluebird Café in
Nashville, Club Passim in Boston, Caffé
Lena in NY and was just recently invited to play at The Birchmere
in Washington DC. In 2012, her 15-year marriage ended and her mother was
diagnosed with brain cancer and died 6 months later. Out of those dark days
came some new songs that would eventually be recorded on her newest release
“Lay It Down”: 10 songs of love, loss and surrender. On
“Lay It Down”, she collaborated with folk-rock
songwriter/producer, Cliff Eberhardt, who
envisioned that minimalist arrangements and restrained production would
allow the emotional songs and Louise’s voice a stark relief to rest
and shine in. The new CD, “Lay It Down”, was released in late
summer/Fall 2014…and the journey will continue…." artist's
