Cupola: "is Doug Eunson, Sarah Matthews and Oli
Matthews playing English and European dance music and English songs in three
part harmony. Incorporating melodeons, hurdy gurdy,
saxophones, clarinet, fiddle and viola, these three highly talented musicians
and singers weave intricate harmonies and beautiful melodies. ROAM is our
second album just released in May 2015" - artists' website super video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=I1M8oBfDfbk#t=25
I'm betting even Putin couldn't keep his right hand from tapping in time to
this album!
Doug Eunson & Sarah Matthews: "This talented pair have been playing English Acoustic Folk
Music together since 1995. They both sing – in superb harmony
– with Melodeon and Fiddle / Viola instrumentation. They choose their
material with care and craft their arrangements with style and intuitive
elegance, playing English and European dance music and drawing on some of the
finest English folk song repertoire. Doug and Sarah have delighted folk clubs
and festival audiences alike with knowledge of their material and relaxed humourous delivery.
“This derbyshire based duo,
rooted in the english
tradition, have developed into exciting performers of both traditional and contemporary
music. With creative arrangements, their musicianship is at once in evidence
and as if that wasn’t enough they are both excellent singers who employ
imaginative harmonies to great effect. A great night
out!”

Moirai: "is a meeting of the musical minds
of: Jo Freya (Blowzabella, Token Women, Fraser
Sisters), Sarah Matthews (Cupola, Cupola:Ward)
and Melanie Biggs (All Blacked Up). Having played together many a tune in sessions
throughout the country, it was decided to knit together their various talents
by forming Moirai. Moirai
means Spinners of Destiny and performances weave the trios
instrumental talents with haunting vocals. The result: enchanting musical
arrangements delivered with skill and a healthy dollop of humour."
- Wildgoose Records website
"No, it’s not a Wallon group but an
English group. A female trio in the image of the spinners of
destiny and modestly so. Their first CD contains many of their own
compositions explained (in the book) in a very human and simple way as if you
were sat at a table next to them. Their compositions are charming and varied
reflecting their meetings and life events. Their compositions are very natural
with reference to other composers. Their first number is a suite of Bourrées from Giles Chabanat where the sax gives a wink to Denmark! An Irishman
living in Switzerland, a Canadian, the French group Le Gop
(for a lovely Mazurka) ,Sicily mixes with their roots to create a harmonious
sound, warm and without affectation , instrumentals complimented by songs such
as the charming ‘Magpie Sitting on a Broken Chair’. Jo Freya
(vocals, sax, clarinets, whistles), Melanie Biggs (vocals accordion and flute),
Sarah Matthews (Vocals, Violin, Viola Guitar) listen in a peaceful setting
where you can truly percolate (appreciate) these drops of happiness." -

Tom Russell:"Tom Russell songs have been
recorded by such icons as Johnny Cash, Dave Van Ronk,
Jerry Jeff Walker, Doug Sahm, Joe Ely, Nanci Griffith, Iris Dement, and Ramblin’
Jack Elliott, among others. No less than Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the legendary
poet, has said that he shares “a great affinity with Tom Russell’s
songs, for he is writing out of the wounded heart of America.” Tom's 52
Track, double record "The Rose of Roscrae"
- A Ballad of the West, is to be released April 14, 2015…with guest
artists: Johnny Cash, Leadbelly, Ramblin'
Jack Elliott, Guy Clark, Dan Penn, Gretchen Peters, Ian Tyson and dozens of
others…the reviews are piling in:
"The Rose of Roscrae: A Ballad of the West is
the third in a series of extraordinary concept albums Tom Russell has
delivered...yet another masterwork. It is a work of rare ambition and rare
brilliance that is beautifully and artfully executed...Tom’s performances
are riveting throughout the long piece. So, too, are the other singers who take
on various roles in the folk opera...There is an embarrassment of riches among
the songs Tom composed for The Rose of Roscrae...Mike
Regenstreif, Folk Roots"
"Russell’s Roscrae masterpiece, as well as
his back catalogue, totally outstrips (so much of) the music by contemporaries
that masquerades as (Americana.) He open heartedly understands that historic
context and musical tradition are inextricably linked....Approached very much
in the panoramic spirit of classical composer Aaron Copland...Celtic blood
courses through this writer’s veins, and the sonically colorful melodies
and richly poetic images embedded throughout The Rose Of Roscrae
are the stuff of hair-raising chills and joyous optic moisture. Arthur Wood, No
Depression, April 2015"" - artist's website
Still On The Hill: "is a national and international touring group from
Arkansas that has been described as “Ambassadors of the Ozarks” for
the work they do to preserve a rich culture that is quickly disappearing. Kelly
& Donna of Still on the Hill are award winning ‘story telling-song
writers’. Different than most singer-songwriters, this dynamic duo
embellishes their songs with a host of unique instruments from the hills they
call home. Many of these were hand-made by old-timers and have amazing stories
that go with them. KELLY MULHOLLAN is a fifth generation native Arkansan who is
a classically trained guitarist. At six years old he cut his teeth, playing
ukulele and listening to Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. As a teen he
embraced the progressive rock bands like Genesis and Yes and perfected that
complex style of music. Now when he plays the guitar, banjo, mandolin,
harmonica, ukulele or upright bass…you can hear all those influences-
along with his strong Ozark roots- coming through to create a sound that is
unique to Still on the Hill. Kelly’s masterful
songwriting dips into the deep well of history, and his love for the Ozarks is
alive in every word and note that he plays. DONNA MULHOLLAN learned the fiddle
in the kitchen with her dad, who played the guitar and sang old Hank Williams
and Bob Wills songs. For 35 years she toured the
country playing with various country-western bands and even did a stint with a
large Las Vegas show. At 18 she had met an old fiddle maker named Denton Boze who lived in a tarpaper shack in the Arkansas
backwoods. His story haunted her for years and in her late 30’s she wrote
her first song about him, opening a floodgate of songs, many about people and
places in the Ozarks. Her instrumental palette includes; several one of a kind
Ozark-made fiddles, mandolin, musical saw, scrub-board, ukelin,
guitar, mule-jawbone and Ozark pickin’
bow." - artists' website
The Pitmen Poets: features four of the region’s leading champions of its
musical heritage: Ex-Lindisfarne singer and songwriter Billy Mitchell, renowned
singer and instrumentalist Bob Fox, leading exponent of Tyneside
song Benny Graham, and much-covered Durham songwriter Jez Lowe - individually
and collectively celebrating triumphs, tragedy, humour
and hard times of North-East England's coal mining tradition in an evening of
music, song and spoken word, illustrated by atmospheric archive photography.
Billy spent much of the 70s touring Europe with much-missed folk-rockers Jack
the Lad before becoming 50% of the hilarious Maxie & Mitch. When
Lindisfarne knocked on his door in 1996, he fronted the band until they retired
in 2003. Continuing to perform solo and with his band, he has more recently
been touring The Lindisfarne Story with his pal Ray Laidlaw. www.billymitchell.co.uk
Bob has twice been nominated as Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk
Awards. Through his masterful interpretation of traditional and contemporary
songs he's become a favourite on the national and
international folk circuit. Recently he's played the role of SONGMAN in The
National Theatre’s West End production of WARHORSE and the UK, Ireland
and South Africa touring production. www.bobfoxmusic.com
From Easington Colliery in County Durham, Jez is a
much-covered and much-travelled songwriter and singer, with around twenty
albums to his name, as well as a long-running role as a principle writer for
the award-winning BBC series, The Radio Ballads. His latest album, The Ballad
Beyond, was released last year, to
much acclaim. www.jezlowe.com
Benny served his musical apprenticeship in the folksong clubs of The North
East, developing a love of rural songs, and the music which grew from the heavy
industries of coal, steel and ship building. Following years working in the UK
and Europe as a solo performer, he's recently been working as an actor &
songwriter. www.bennygraham.com
